Lisa Koss speaks on " International Project Management: Leading Across Cultures" at Project Management Institute (PMI)

October 19, 2006

Managers operating in a global business environment require different skills than the managers of a decade ago. With colleagues, employees, customers and suppliers from different parts of the world, managers are wise to continue to learn about communication and leadership within global teams. Instead of convincing others that their own ideas are best, managers must draw upon varied mindsets and skills to be able to leverage the knowledge of their counterparts, make well-informed decisions and remain competitive in the marketplace.

Once considered “soft skills”, the people skills have become “hard”, while the core business skills and tools look comparatively easier and easier. This session will combine a look at teams, communication and culture, leaving you with concepts and tips for global managers who are confronted everyday with different – and sometimes conflictive -- ideas and work practices.

Join us Oct 19, where we will discuss:

  1. elements of effective global work teams
  2. cultural competencies for global managers
  3. best practices of communication in global environments (face-to-face and in virtual circumstances)
  4. multiple realities and conflict resolution
