Message from the President

IMC AZ Chapter President Natalie Sayer

Thank you for visiting the home of the Arizona Chapter of the Institute of Management Consultants (IMC). We hope you find everything you need, whether you are a member, aspiring consultant or community member.

During 2008, we will continue to build our “Community of Consultants”. We are focusing on 5 major areas:

Membership Involvement and Connection

  • To increase member connection, we began Mastermind Groups late last year. Here is a word from Barb Elazari, our Mastermind Coordinator:

As the New Year kicks off, I would like take the opportunity to update the IMC-AZ membership on an initiative that started last this fall -- Mastermind Groups. The objective was to create small groups of members who meet monthly as a type of advisory board to each other in order to share ideas, discuss issues and opportunities, and provide support to one another. We currently have two groups meeting - one meets in a teleconference manner in the evening and the other meets in a face to face breakfast meeting. Each group has a volunteer coordinator who helps with logistics in addition to being a member of the group. The groups have between 4 and 7 attendees for each meeting; several other people have expressed interest and plan on getting involved in 2008.

If anyone is interested in joining a Mastermind Group or would like to get more information, please contact the "mastermind" coordinator, Barb Elazari, at barb@bebandassociates.com or chapter president, Natalie Sayer at natalie@i-emerge.com.

  • Dr. Debra Peck gave us an excellent program last year on Social Network Analysis. This year she has offered to perform an analysis of the IMC-Arizona Chapter. Members will be receiving an email survey in the early spring to form the basis of the analysis. This analysis will enable us to understand how we as an organization connect and interact.

Community Outreach

Cynthia Paine has volunteered to lead the Oak Tree Project in the Arizona Chapter. This has been a project that the IMC-AZ chapter has wanted to do for the last two years. We will donate our time and talents to work on a worthwhile project in a non-profit organization in the Phoenix community. She is currently assembling a team of consultants who will volunteer their time and expertise to for this project. If you are a member of our IMC-Arizona consulting community, who would like to contribute your time and talents, please contact Cynthia Paine.

Membership Growth and Retention

During the last few years the IMC-Arizona has grown in membership. This year we have formed 2 board positions, Ted Szaniawski is focused on Membership Growth. If you are interested in joining the IMC-AZ, please contact him. His team will be sending out our first “card campaign” in the early spring to attract members, who may not know about the IMC. Tom Funk is focused on keeping our current members happy (a.k.a. Membership Retention). We are constantly trying to provide greater value to our members at the local level. If you have any ideas, please contact Tom.

High-quality Programs

The Program Team (Doug Zogby and Will Lindquist) has continued to offer interesting speakers on a wide variety of topics for the emerging or experienced consultant. We have monthly programs held at the University Club every month except July and August, when we “go virtual” to escape the heat and still stay connected. Join us after the regular meeting for the “Session After the Session” (SAS). This is an opportunity to explore more deeply with other consultants and, when possible, the meeting speaker. The SAS always brings rich, thought-provoking conversation and practical ideas shared by fellow consultants. Check back to see upcoming programs or to review past meeting topics.

Chapter Advancement

As the local Arizona chapter of the national Institute of Management Consultants, we are constantly looking for ways to strengthen our professional organization and to add value to our community and members. We have several efforts to advance our organization that range from an increased number of Certified Management Consultants (CMCs) to ensuring our by-laws meet the needs of our future direction. As the year unfolds, we will evaluate various ways, in addition to those mentioned about, to advance our chapter.

Please visit us at one of our monthly meetings held the 2nd Friday of every month.
